Training Curriculum

The Basic Academy consists of 160 hours of formal instruction. The formal curriculum consists of the following:

  • Academy Orientation
  • Nutrition, Wellness and Physical Fitness
  • S–190 Introduction to Fire Behavior (final exam only)
  • S–131 Advanced Firefighter
  • L–280 Followership to Leadership
  • Basic Fire Prevention
  • S-260 Interagency Incident Business Management
  • I-200 Basic ICS

  • Wildland Fire Skills
    • Map Reading and Compass Use
    • Communications and Radio Use
    • Handtool Use
    • Fire Shelters and Entrapment Avoidance
    • Weather Observations
    • Human Factors
    • Tactical Decision Making, Sandtable Exercise
